My Dad will kill me for saying this...but I've never been a Stooges fan.   Or, more specifically, I've never been a THREE Stooges fan (Iggy and The Stooges first album still ranks as one of the best driving albums of all time).   iggy-and-the-stooges If you've been listening to "Scene Unseen" these past few years, you'll know I'm no vintage snob - I adore Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Laurel & Hardy - but to me, the extreme slapstick of the bumbling trio never tickled my funny bone. So, it came as a great surprise when last week, upon learning the cast for the upcoming Peter and Bobby Farrelly's feature film, The Three Stooges, my excitor sensors rang like Mardi Gras.  If you haven't heard the news yet, the cast is... Sean Penn as Larry, Benicio Del Toro as Moe, and Jim Carrey as Curly. What the hell's that gonna look like?  Well, super fan Josh Christensen from Pipersville, Pennsylvania sent us the following image Photoshopped for your pleasure.  Check it out after the jump...

Casting out of the box always excites me, and except for the obvious choice of Carrey, Del Toro and Penn come out of left field.   In everything from The Usual Suspects to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Del Toro has proved to be quite the vocal chameleon, and his intense stare certainly translates into Moe's ready-to-blow character.   Penn's work in comedic roles like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Sweet and Lowdown, along with the effortless charm he exuded in Van Sant's, Milk, should work wonderfully for Larry. For the 13-year back story about finally bringing this feature to the big screen, head over to MTV and read all about it. The film should premiere sometime in 2011 (give or take a year)...and then we'll see if the Farrellys stay true to the original tone, or add the extreme bodily humor they've become so famous for.  The duo's track record is certainly hit or miss, but they seem to have quite a soft spot in their hearts for these historic comedians. In the meantime, perhaps it's time for me to re-visit The Three Stooges vault and give them another go.  Anything to make ol' Pops Browne happy, right? Share
