vivienleighIn honor of Memorial Day (i.e., “Barbecue Monday”), I’d like to shine a light on a strange pop culture phenomenon…Scarlett O’Hara at the Twelve Oaks Barbecue collectibles.  That’s right…f’n collectibles.

The legendary white and green dress worn by Vivien Leigh has inspired dolls,
collector plates, and its own physical restoration and donation to LACMA.

While Gone with the Wind will always be known for “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” and “Tomorrow is another day,” I prefer the underated, “Charles Hamilton, I want to eat barbecue with you.”

It is, perhaps, the greatest barbecue showcase committed to film…The Great Outdoors coming in a close second.  If you’re a fan of Gone, you might be interested in this rare behind-the-scenes footage discovered a few years back.

By the way, did you know Victor Fleming directed both Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz in 1939?  Granted, there were multiple directors for Gone (George Cukor and Sam Wood), but still…what a year!

Speaking of barbecue, allow me to post a shameless plug for my Dad’s TV show on PBS, Barbecue America.  Gotta love nepotism (and fall-off-the-bone ribs)!

Love that kid, but he still needs some BBQEducation…”fall off the bone” ribs are waaaayyyy overcooked. Meat should come clean off the bone with each bite, otherwise you get a whole slab of meat in your mouth all at once. Each bite should fight a bit, then give up and enjoy a trip down your gullet. But thanks for the plug kiddo!
