Always love a show with Mr.Oblivion as guest!
Jeremy, please feel free to send that $20 you promised me for posting this via paypal. No checks please, thanks!
-Well, it’s the Taking of Pelham 1-2-3,
-If you want a doody rhyme, then come see me.
Another great episode, as always, guys! I loved hearing Mr. Oblivion again (diddo on the $20, Jeremy
) Anyway, I loved the DVD picks, especially “Planes, Trains, and Auto” because my family watches it every Thanksgiving. It is a tradition for us and I cry like a baby every damn time! John Candy is great in this! Another good John Candy film that no one ever talks about that “Only the Lonely” with Ally Sheedy. Keep up the good work, guys (bring back Mumby! I will pay you $20!
)
Dear Melissa and Justin,
I’ve re-read the agreement and in order to receive the $20, you had to spell my name correctly. I noticed, however, that there’s a provision laid out in section F – subsection II that states “should a misspellling or unintentional insult occur in the requested comment, Mr. Oblivian agrees to buy the contractee an alcoholic beverage of the contractee’s choosing.” I’ll be “sleeping” in a gutter somewhere near Fairfax & 8th St. Come find me and if you can wake me up, I’ll make good on the offer.
Upon review of the official Oblivian Ass-Kissing Agreement we have determined that our client has been officially pwned and shall forfeit all previous claims to payment.
Dear Melissa’s attorneys,
More drink for me. Praise Jesús.
I see your $20, and I raise you $60! Beat that, ladies…and Mac-E!
I’m not surprised to hear that jeromy has to pay fans to compliment him on his contribution to this wonderful podcast. I’m a big fan of the show but I’ve realized that my least favorite episodes have one thing in common: Mr. Oblivian.
I’m not sure which trait of his brings the the show down. Is it his dull, monotonous tone and delivery? Or his insatiable need to talk over the real hosts (does he constantly say ‘yeah’ in the background just to feel like he’s adding something?)? Or is it that he never says anything insightful, meaningful or worthwhile? (We barely got to hear what Chris and Jimmy thought of “Pelham 123″ because Jeromy was too busy ignorantly complaining about Dave Eggers and talking about his offensively-titled ‘Gay Tuesdays’.)
Perhaps all three combine to form a super-force of suck.
I love this show for Chris’ insight and thoughtfulness. I appreciate Jimmy’s sense of humor teamed with his willingness to speak his mind no matter how abrasive or contrary-to-the-norm it may be (which is refreshing in the world of movie review podcasts).
I think we can all agree that Chris and Jimmy have a great thing going here. I can’t be the only one that thinks Jeromy OBlivian just clutters it up.
P.S. The only saving grace to the Wall•E episode is Chris Mac.
Dear KayJay,
I challenge you to a DUEL!
(not to be confused with a viewing of Spielberg’s murderous truck thriller.)
As Jeromy’s recently appointed lawyer (hope you’re cool with this Jeromy) I advise stop payment on ALL agreements, bets, and/or deals made in this ongoing conversation.
If you do not choose to dismiss these agreements my client will avail every legal remedy against you and your clients.
This message is not a complete statement of my clients take on the $20 at hand or any other offer, nor does it constitute a waiver or limitation of any of the legal or equitable rights, all of which are reserved.
Cease, or desist, or both.
Sincerely,
Jimmy
Just to comment on the whole adapted/original thing…
All sequels by rule are adapted. The Aviator wasn’t based on something that had been produced or published, they don’t count real life. Milk was also listed as original for that same reason.
-Well, it’s the Taking of Pelham 1-2-3,
-If you want a doody blog post, then come see this current link.
I probably shouldn’t read this stuff before I listen to the episode because I don’t know what the hell you guys are talking about…
I thought this movie was a steaming pile and I thought Travolta was atrocious. I would rather listen to a looped recording of Rue Paul dragging his/her fingernails across a blackboard than listen to Travolta drop another F-bomb or bark out “Mother Fruiter!” Also, the slow-mo shots were painful and unnecessary, I thought.
Love the show though!
Quick note – it’s nigh impossible to get back to your homepage after commenting here. Your logo at the top should link back to the homepage when clicked, or there should be a “Home” link alongside the “Blog-Podcast-About-Store” Linkbar.
Not trying to be a PITA, just FYI! OMG TMA! (too many acronyms!)
or you could just click “blog” again…
Chris,
1. You can hit “BLOG” up above.
2. You can use that handy dandy back arrow/last page device they invented during the Netscape Navigator years.
“Impossible” is such a strong word…I advise against using it when you’re mistaken, kind sir.
Taking the logo click idea under consideration.
Is it just me or does jeromyOBLIVIAN sound a lot like The Dude…
Dear KayJay,
Thank you for your insightful comments. I too feel that Chris Mac was the saving grace of the Wall-E episode. His voice is soothing, mellifluous, and betrays the fact that he has an enormous schvantz.
I would go so far as to say that Chris Mac is to Podcasts, what Spanish Fly is to a VFW dance.
I eagerly await Chris Mac’s contributions to the podcast review of “Fly Me To The Moon 2: Insects, Lies, and Videotape.”
In Airplane! it’s Ted Striker not Ted Strickler….how could you fuck that up????
STRIKER dude! I’m sorry! It’s STRIKER! STRIKER! STRIKER! It was cocktail hour at the Apollo. I will apologize for you on the show, damn it all…
They sure as hell don’t make ‘em like they used to. I’m totally biting that for one of my projects sometime.
Wasn’t trying to be a douche, just didn’t realize “Blog” took me to where I wanted to go. I thought my criticism was of the constructive sort.
Am I the only person who hated this movie btw?
Just wanted to say that Oblivion is great. He’s welcome in my ears anytime (that sounded creepy, I should have said that he’s welcome on my iPod anytime… although even that seems a little creepy after having led off with the ear thing. Crap.). Chris Mac is hilarious as well.
Great show as usual, Oblivion was great. Excellent DVD picks–Airplane is one of my top faves.
Curious if Chris can make it through a podcast without using the words “popcorn movie.” I’m kind of starting to consciously wait for it.
Mmmm…I’m craving some POPCORN. Would be great if I had a MOVIE to go along with it. What would be even better is a POPCORN MOVIE.
That’s POPCORN + MOVIE = POPCORN MOVIE.
Hey, pass the POPCORN MOVIE to the left…
This look interesting,so far.
If there are any real people here looking to network, leave me a post.
Oh, and yes I’m a real person LOL.
Peace,
