Surb on Film_LOGO_sm_yellMore often than not, my friend SURB hates movies.

As a devout movie fanatic, maker, and reviewer, I find this incredibly refreshing…and hilarious.  One day in Santa Cruz, I decided it would be a great idea to get Surb drunk and videotape him ranting about cinema.

So, with a cheap camcorder, a can of Tecate, and a glass of Jim Beam, we went to work.  In the first 12 episodes of “SURB ON FILM,” my main man reviews such classics as Commando, Casablanca, and Titanic.  He also shares his thoughts on “Hollywood,” “The Hottest Actress Around,” and “The All Time Chick Scoring Movie.”

I hope you find him as entertaining as I do.  After all, if Jimmy and I can be considered “critics,” why the hell not Surb?  If you think this is funny in any way, shape, or form…PLEASE email, blog, and spread the word to all your co-conspirators.  Let’s make Surb viral (and not in the STD sense of the word).

Check out the first dozen eps on his YouTube Channel here, his review of The Legend of Bagger Vance below, and TWO MORE reviews after the jump…

Funny, kinda reminds me of Euphoria Emporium skits. Although the intro could be cut down a bit because i find myself skipping past it.

In my country they would go crazy with you two; this one… not so much.

  4. Chris said:

Benjamin – Glad you dig it!

Dylan – It’s all about the build up!

Antonio – Crazy in a good way, I assume?

Sourpatch Kids and a Large Diet Coke mofos! Although did he put ice in his beer? That’s wrong on many levels.

  7. Chris said:

Nathan, my man…It’s actually Jim Beam on ice…he’s King of the Two-Fist.

Ah, I guess if I’d used my astounding powers of observation I would have noticed that you mentioned that in the blog post. Although knowing that he’s double fisting there adds some dimension to the videos. Funny stuff!

    Hi Chris,

Yes! Crazy in a good way. It was just my poor atempt at a joke paraphrasing Borat at the dinner party. Oh well…

    Surb,

    Next drink is on me!

    Disgusting in the best way!

More please. And longer episodes. I would love to here Surb talk at length about pretty much anything.

  13. Chris said:

There will be a second batch of episodes…don’t worry! Glad the response is so positive!

Let’s spread this puppy like wildfire!

I am a little concerned that he liked Titanic and hated Rounders. Hopefully that was the liquor talking ;)

A cinema aficionado! I live in Santa Cruz & I felt a swell of pride in Surb or was it just a swell of waves crashing over his reviews? I don’t know. But do we question the Surb? I think not. I will be on the lookout for Surb so I can ask our cinema oracle what does he think of Cider House Rules?

  16. chris said:

Okay, the production makes these. Stunning.

Not that Surb isn’t a fine craftsman. It’s obvious he’s driven, and in much of his work is an empathy and nuance that’s rare these days.

    And in some clips…
    nice package!

  17. Chris said:

chris…please don’t mention the “package”…i will vomit my granola.

  18. Chris said:

yes, that was careless of me!

  19. 7ate9 said:

No offense Chris, but this was definitely not the first thing I was expecting to see from you. Kind of disappointing, but hey, maybe it’s one of those deals where you had to be there.
Hope to see some other stuff you do when you take it up a notch. The show is still great.
Btw, wouldn’t it be a whole lot easier to have everyone posting this stuff in a nice organized forum? What if someone wants to comment on an old blog post? No one will see their wisdom unless they too travel back 15 pages. Just sayin. Think about it.

    7ate9,

It’s something we did for fun one evening, not something we take too seriously. Not everyone gets the joke, and that’s a-ok with me.

The forum is dead, and always will be.

The concept is amazing, however I thought the actual reviews were too short and the titles too long. You should definitely get this guy going on and on about a movie. I’m sure a ton of great material would come up.

  22. ChrisM said:

These are perfectly executed. I had to come back and reiterate that. They do exactly what they are supposed to do. How many things can you say that about?

  23. Steve said:

Drunken, one sentence movie reviews. That’s perfect. My favorite was Casablanca.
