This is pure awesomeness…or is it? I was a huge fan of Freddy Krueger in my youth and I can only hope that Michael Bay’s vision doesn’t F this one up. Bay’s remake plans include The Birds, The Tenant, Rosemary’s Baby…I might start crying if I continue.
I have faith in music video director Samuel Bayer, who’s done work for Green Day, Iron Maiden, Metallica, David Bowie, and many more. Jackie Earle Haley as Krueger is just great casting, but I don’t know how I feel about his look, or his voice. He sounds like The Waterboy meets Billy Bob’s character in Sling Blade.
Warner Bros. and New Line are currently planning to release A Nightmare on Elm Street April 16, 2010. For the Official Website click here.

You Know What?
I hate horror movies, but this looks fucking unbelievable. I love Jackie Earl Hayley from Little Children and Watchmen!
Jackie Earle Haley is pulling me in, but nothing else is. They need to stop advertising these with “from producer michael bay”…big turn off…
I agree with Jimmy. On the one hand, I am excited because I am a HUGE Freddy fan (Haley’s casting is genius, as well.) Another music video that Bayer is famous for is the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video which was a large part of Nirvana’s success. Anyway, I am not crazy about the Freddy voice but I know Haley has to bring something different to it, so hopefully I can put my “geekdom” aside and be open to it. The Billy-Bob- meets-the-Waterboy analogy was hilarious, btw.
Watched the original last night…and I still found myself holding my breath at times…I’ll be seeing this in the theatre for sure…lets hope Bay didn’t screw this up for us….
I’m actually optimistic about this
1. Jackie Earl Hayley is a creepy actor
2. Bayer directed some of my faveorite green day and my chemical romance videos and
3. The writer wrote Scorseci’s Cape Feare
Trailer looks like cheese, but man the casting of Hayley! Hoe could I not watch that?
Damn typos.
Anywho, I’m in for this one- for now.
ahh the memories. 1st time i saw nightmare on elm street i was 8 and waited until 1am to see it on tv. watched it alone and only got to the part where johnny depp (?) got swallowed by the bed and said “well that’s enough” and went to bed scared as hell =P never finished the movie though, but freddy remains one of my fave movie villains 20 years later =)
I don’t really understand the fuss over Jackie Earl Haley. How much talent does it take to wear a mask and growl about through an entire film?
I saw Sorority Row yesterday and it fucking sucked to say the least. It was a shitty horror remake. Only thing it was missing was Michael Bay.
If Bay screws this up i will never see another one of his moives again. And really, what the hell is he thinking remaking the birds?
So far I’m in, even though I’m pretty sure that Fredy will be much different this time around. With that said, I can’t wait to see what drream sequences they come up with this time.
Brian,
A lot of people have worn masks and growled, but how many of them were interesting?
The guy really works at his characters and it shows. They have depth.
An “unrated” rental, at best.
Michael Bay being somewhere near this film is scarier than Krueger himself.
I think Haley will be great and this one has potential to be, dare may I say it, a good remake.
Freddy looks a bit too much like Voldemort for my taste. Though I suppose they are both child murderers, so go figure.
I liked the line he said at the beginning about him not having done anything, maybe they change things up and have him not as a child killer before his “death”?
