I can’t believe they want to remake Yellow Submarine. It is perfect as it is. Even though I trust Zemeckis…wow.
I failed to write in this week but the trippiest Beatles film is Magical Mystery Tour, if you can find it it’s definitely worth checking out. No plot, just the Beatles on a bus having strange dreams and things. It has the only performance they did of “I Am the Walrus”
Here are my pics for next weeks cult movie….
Trainspotting (best drug movie ever)
KIDS (most disturbing movie I watched as a kid, I kept asking, “Where are there parents…” and I was 15 when I saw it.
Tron (nuff said)
Big Trouble in Little China
The Wackness
and finally
The Warriors
keep up the good work, next time you guys are in ATL, hit me up and I’ll buy you a beer.

Brian – Believe it or not, I actually think “Yellow Submarine” is one of those rare remakes that could be truly wonderful.
If you go back and look at the original, while it does have its place in Beatles history, and some great psychedelic set pieces, it’s very thin on story.
Not only that, The Beatles had next to nothing to do with the project until the very end of production, and a brief cameo before the final credits.
I think those new animatics for “Beatles Rock Band” were spectacular, and that gets me jazzed for this. As long as the imagination is there, this thing could be bonkers.
Don Diggidy – Jimbo and I just might take you up on that ATL beer.
Don Diggidy – There’s actually a Tron sequel in talks. Not sure how I feel about it… the only reason I’m leaning toward the positive is because it looks like Karl Urban will be in it. Still, it’s not due till 2011, so we’ll see.
Chris – I agree about Yellow Submarine. Because it wasn’t like Magical Mystery Tour, Help!, or Hard Day’s Night. The Beatles really weren’t in it hardly at all, so while it has the potential to be a truly wonderful remake, it is also the one that is most able to be remade… if that makes sense.
Taking Woodstock – this is not the first time he’s acted. He was also in Season 1 of Flight of the Conchords… but I honestly think the biggest name in that movie is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but I didn’t see it, so I don’t know how large his role was.
9 – I’m excited about this movie because it reminds me of a game I used to play called Voodoo Vince. It’s a cheap little game for Xbox, not a strong storyline, but you’re basically playing as a voodoo doll trying to save the lady who created you. And you do damage to your enemies by doing damage to yourself. The ways he “kills” himself are pretty epic, and while it was absolutely cheap, was so much fun to play. You should try to find it, it won’t cost more than 5 bucks. Play it, and I bet you’ll be excited about 9. lol.
Hard Day’s Night of the Living Dead – there’s a book coming out. No joke. Not the same as Hard Day’s Night of the Living Dead, but it’s the Beatles with zombies. >.<
The “With Zombies” thing has been catching on ever since the book “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” came out. Since then, they’ve added zombies to other famous works of literature. And I think a movie version of “P and P and Z” is in the works.
Scene Unseen & Zombies…it’s got a decent ring to it.
I just saw “Taking Woodstock” and I liked it quite a bit, although I do agree that it wasn’t really a comedy and it did start off very slow. However, parts of it did make me chuckle, a couple of scenes were very moving, the story was very cool (more of a coming-of-age story with “Woodstock” as a backdrop), and the performances were very good (I especially liked Leiv Schrieber as the head of security.) Yeah, the music was lacking (maybe Ang Lee wanted to save that as part of the final reveal of the show) and I thought that the acid trip scene went on a little too long, mostly because I didn’t see what the point was. But all in all, it was pretty good. Also, I loved the tracking shot of Elliot and entering the music festival. It was one long, un-broken shot and it made me feel like I was actually there.
