   don’t be a Polanski apologist. Jimmy is right, he reached a financial settlement with the victim in 2003 but he has yet to reach a settlement with society and the U.S. courts. We can’t have a 43-y.o. man drug, rape, and sodomize a 13-y.o. kid and hope to get away with it by escaping to his native country of France and living as a rich and powerful celebrity!

   What Polanski did was just plain wrong. If it happened to your mom, sister, or girlfriend your feelings would be different. Just because he makes nice movies and had some tragedies in his life doesn’t mean he gets a free pass to rape a child. Seriously.

   I never said he should get a free pass for doing such a horrible thing to Samantha.

   In the show I called the act “wrong” and him a “bad person” for the event.

   If anything, I was trying to loosely balance an artist who creates great work…but yet, has a tumultuous and checkered personal life.

   I hesitated to even bring the topic up since it deserves more serious consideration and careful word choice than our silly, mile-a-mintue podcast sometimes offers.

    I believe you mean you agree with Beth (Samantha was the victim). Again, neither Jimmy nor I condone what Polanski did. No fucking way.

    Perhaps we didn’t make a strong enough stance on the last episode because we weren’t planning on diving into the topic in a serious manner…it was just an off-hand comment.

    So, allow me to clarify…even if Polanski cured cancer, he should still be punished for what he did. He’s had over 30 years of freedom, and karma is a bitch…and he deserves whatever’s coming his way.

    Something that disturbs me about the Polanski case is the inconsistent effort put forth by the law. He could have been arrested many times in the past few decades, and they finally decide to do it. I’m not sure that enforcing the law and fighting for justice on whims sends the right message.

    And rapist or not, it doesn’t affect my viewings of Chinatown.

    Saw that Bunny Lake was one of those free On Demand movies from my cable company and thought I would finally chance it on your recommendation… LOVED it! Not sure if the supposed similarities are enough to make me watch Flight Plan though…

    Justice MUST be served with Polanski, no doubt in my mind. Throw him in jail for however long, justice needs to be served! Here’s an idea: how about a reality show on a premium channel about Polanski’s life in prison…? All of new boyfriends and their daily activities with him…huh?
