There are some things you just don’t do.  Apparently, Tyler Perry didn’t get that memo. My condolences to Sam Peckinpah who is currently rolling in his grave.

I Can Do Bad All By Myself opens today.

3, 4, better lock your door…

5, 6, grab your crucifix…

7, 8 gonna stay up late…

9, 10, never sleep again.

One of the very few horror remakes I’m excited about.

Jackie Earle Haley was a wonderful choice…he’s come a long way from Breaking Away.  And just look at that warped, blistered skin!  Yumtastic!

TCM Posters

For the entire month of August, Turner Classic Movies is once again launching their annual “Summer Under the Stars” series.  Every day of the month will be dedicated to a different star – Cary Grant, Bette Davis, Sidney Poitier – and will showcase films making their premiere on the channel.

In conjunction with the marathon, TCM’s stable of talented artists created a batch of modern posters for these classic flicks…and they’re exceptional.  Click on the above image for a LARGER version of their take on The Magnificent Seven, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and The Big Heat.  More info after the jump…

there will be cornflakesYeah, this poster mash-up is clever and all…but I don’t recall any breakfast cereal connections in There Will Be Blood, do you?

Wouldn’t this have been much more effective as There Will Be Milkshakes? And the long white line was either a straw or a thin pour of vanilla into a stainless steel milkshake shaker?

“When Ambition Meets Breakfast” and “Coming Spoon” are nice one-liners, but who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?

Apparently, these are the things that bother me.

Poland has the most artistic, daring, psychotic, beautiful, wonderful, experimental, “what the hell were they thinking?!” posters in the entire world.  A few years ago, super fan Roger Hung from Austin, Texas made me some snazzy whiskey coasters outta these guys.

If you haven’t guessed yet, the movie titles above are: Midnight Cowboy, The Birds, and Alien.  Insane, right?  I mean, THAT is their Alien poster?  Too cool.

Apocalypse NowStar Trek 3

The late Bob Peak was responsible for revolutionizing the world of film advertising with his beautiful artistic collages which helped promote some of Hollywood’s biggest films. He designed over hundreds of posters for the motion picture industry including Apocalypse Now, My Fair Lady, Star Trek, and Excalibur to name a few, and also designed many covers for TV Guide. I would advise anyone in the SoCal area to check out the Bob Peak: Father of The Modern Hollywood Poster Exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California (June 6 – June 25).

A Christmas Carol Poster

Days after Disney wowed Cannes audiences with 10 minutes of 3D footage and a promo clip for Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming performance capture film, A Christmas Carol, the Disney marketing machine proved itself again by unveiling Disney’s A Christmas Carol Train Tour.

The train kicked off Memorial Day Weekend at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, and will travel to 40 U.S. cities across the country.  The locomotive’s interior showcases footage from the film, behind-the-scenes material, and a demonstration of performance capture technology. Now that’s one hell of an idea for a marketing campaign if I’ve ever seen one!

The film, starring Jim Carrey, is set to open November 6, 2009.

The new poster for Duncan Jones’, Moon, starring Sam Rockwell, was just released…and it seems remarkably similar to Joseph Sargent’s super computer thriller, Colossus: The Forbin Project…don’tcha think?

While Moon seems to pay homage to films such as 2001: A Space OdysseyOutland, and Silent Running, perhaps Colossus was also a source of inspiration.  If you’ve never heard of the 1970 clunker, check out the trailer after the jump

G-Force

Wait!  It get’s worse.  Jerry Bruckheimer is producing Disney’s next 3D guinea-pig family adventure film, G-Force .  If that phrase alone doesn’t make you laugh, it’s actually getting a theatrical release July 24, 2009.  FYI, guinea-pigs are filthy rodents and they WILL bite you.
